Don Cortez, guitarras are made by hand in the legendary mountain high in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico. DON CORTEZ artisans have been perfecting their craft for over many generations. Many of the luthiers that work at the shop are fourth and fifth generation musical instrument makers.
These hand crafted, quality guitars are made from some of the finest woods. Each guitar has it's own unique styling and beautiful inlay craftsmanship. Most importantly, they produce remarkable sound and are played by recording and performing professionals. they are made with 100% top spruce. Mariachi groups replaced Classical guitar, for the DE GOLPE. It has now however been revived. It is still an essential part of the Conjuntos Mariachis.
The Guitarra de golpe or Jarana has 5 nylon strings in 5 courses,
Like the vihuela, it often only has a few frets, but unlike the Vihuela, the frets are made of metal or wood, instead of the vihuela's tied on nylon.
Standard Michoacán tuning: D3, G3, C4, E3, A3.
Tecalitlán tuning: D3, G3, B4, E3, A3.
